Some parents are trying to heal old hurt

There are a lot of broken parents trying to raise kids in their brokenness.

Their hearts are heavy as they navigate through parenthood attempting to avoid the shattered pieces of themselves.

They carry the weight of hurt, shame, and guilt upon their shoulders.

The burning desire to be better than their parents stings their skin.

No one is perfect but they try to be.

They try to embody perfection in hopes that the words, “you’ll never be good enough”, goes away.

They try to put together pieces of a self they didn’t break but in fact, it was the words of others that damaged them.

They’re learning to love as they go.

They look into their children’s eyes and pray to God that they’re doing this parenting thing right.

Being a parent is hard but when you have no positive examples of one, it takes a whole lot out of you not to repeat the only things you know. When you see a person putting everything into being a good parent despite their own struggles, offer them grace and encouragement.

I pray for the mothers and fathers that have to fight against their brokenness.

Psalm 34:18 ESV

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Psalm 147:3 ESV

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
